Prior to starting, what were you expecting the program to be like? How was it different than your expectations?

Prior to starting the MBAxMS program, I expected the courses to be very difficult and intimidating from a technical standpoint. However, I found the material more approachable than expected, and I had a solid support network to help me succeed.

Why did you choose Columbia and the MBAxMS program?

I chose the Columbia MBAxMS program because I wanted to continue to develop my technical skills and build my business acumen with the hope of pivoting industries. I also wanted to live in NYC, so the program was a great fit.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to your class?

I think that my most valuable contribution to my cohort was my enthusiasm. Whether that was towards specific courses, different projects, or social events, I tend to bring a lot of energy.

What’s been the most valuable insight or skill you’ve gained from learning at both Columbia Engineering and Columbia Business School?

I learned how valuable it is to be able to dive deep into technical products while also being able to strategically consider the business and financial context of companies. Having this well-rounded, full understanding is really important for success.

What have been some of the most valuable relationships or connections you’ve built through this dual-degree program?

I have been able to work closely with professors who really pushed me to focus on both the engineering and strategic aspects of projects. I have also made some great friends through my program, whom I believe will go on to be successful leaders in a variety of industries and that I know I can always reach out to.

How has access to both Columbia Engineering and Columbia Business School’s resources and alumni networks shaped your professional opportunities or mentorship experiences?

It has been valuable to have a massive alumni network that spans both schools. I have reached out to alumni from both to talk about potential jobs, interviews, and career growth. Having access to the networks and resources from both schools significantly expanded what I have access to.

What would you tell a prospective student about managing the fast-paced, 20-month structure of the MBAxMS program?

Some terms and semesters may be overwhelming, but try to focus on your passions and the main reasons why you wanted to join this program. This will help you prioritize what you need to do and help you make the right decisions to meet your goals rather than spreading yourself to thin.

What has been the most rewarding part of your MBAxMS journey so far?

I really enjoyed completing the capstone project, where I created an AI-powered application to help women better manage their health. I loved having the opportunity to learn how to use new technology resources and build something in an area I am passionate about and that has ample room for improvement

Post-MBAxMS career interests?

Currently, my career is in tech, where I have an interest in learning how to better understand and use technology to improve businesses in a variety of industries with massive problems.
