I am tremendously grateful for my time at Columbia as a PhD student. One of the things I value the most is that the faculty at the marketing division treat you as a future colleague rather than just as a student, and that relationship is key as part of your formative process as a researcher.

Reflecting on my time at Columbia, there are two aspects of my experience that really stand out: the first is the constant buzz around the department. Whenever I stepped foot in the Marketing department, I always found people around, discussing research, teaching, or just life. It’s a true community of scholars, where doors are always open, and where you can have fun, engaging conversations, without any hierarchy or pretense. The second is the freedom to explore your interests as a PhD student: the flexibility of the PhD program allowed me to explore many topics with different faculty, which allowed me to learn both about marketing, but also about what within marketing I truly found exciting. I have many fond memories of my time there, and know that Columbia set me on a path to success in my career.

It’s all the members of the CBS marketing department who made my time in the doctoral program truly unforgettable. I am grateful not just for the training I have received, but also for the open and supportive culture that encouraged me to develop my ideas and learn from each other.

I believe that the research openness and the rigorous training are the aspects that make CBS so unique. As a graduate student, I was always pushed to think about big questions and try to answer them elegantly.
